Slabwood

From the wood lot, large logs are taken to a sawmill where they are cut into lumber. First the log is “squared”, meaning the bark and first couple of inches of wood are cut off – which is called slabwood or slabs. The slabs are then cut into 12 to 16 inch lengths.

Sizes are very variable, from kindling size pieces to large pieces that may need to be split before they will fit into your stove.

Slabs are more work to stack and carry, and are also a little dirtier than bodywood, therefore they are also priced significantly less than bodywood.

Bulk Bodywood

Logs brought home from the wood lot are put through a processor which cuts pieces to a consistent length and splits them into pieces, ready for your stove or fireplace! It is stored on piles to cure for 1 year until it has approximately 15% moisture which is called “seasoned firewood”.
